It is the preferred electrophoretic system for the resolution of proteins smaller than 30 kDa. –SDS-PAGE is also used preferentially for doubled SDS-PAGE (dSDS-PAGE), a proteomic tool used to isolate extremely hydrophobic proteins for mass spectrometric identification.
